Born and raised in Vancouver, Loren has been playing the local scene since the early 70’s. He has been playing and teaching the drums for over 40 years. He brings these years of performance experience to pass on to his students. Loren has performed with a long list of many notable musicians, some of which are located in the lists below.

Highlights of Loren’s performing career include 4 years of travelling to 23 countries around the world as a cruise ship drummer, as well as performing at a number of different venues such as the Orpheum, Commodore, Queen Elizabeth Theatre, National Arts Centre, Massey Hall, The El Mocambo, The Spectrum, Hamilton Place.

In his earlier years playing, Loren studied at length with the late Ronn Zinko. He has studied in New York with Kenwood Dennard, (featured in A Drummer’s Dream movie) and at Drummer’s Collective NYC, as well as in Los Angeles with Mark Craney.

Loren plays with several bands, including Juno Award Winning Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne, and company. Loren played on Kenny’s acclaimed album Rollin’ with the Blues Boss.

On top of performing and teaching, Loren has written and produced his own CD of instrumental jazz, featuring many local musicians. It is called Loren Etkin and Friends: Percussion Discussion. Please email if you’d like to purchase a copy of the CD!

Loren can also be found playing local hotels and casinos and festivals, when he’s not teaching his students.
